Rivers rugby jumpers are so versatile and comfortable, you will want to wear it everywhere.
Doesn't matter where you are going, you can look the part in one of the range of Rivers rugby tops. They incorporate neat side vents, a straight hem and a slightly longer back than front meaning that it will stay tucked in, or look just as good hanging out for the more casual requirements.

The knit polo has come a long way over the last couple of decades.  It can just as easily be worn out to dinner as to the backyard barbie. Therefore, we believe we have to make the Rivers polos as comfortable as possible to accommodate such versatility.

Looking good and feeling fine.
Our cotton jumpers are made from long staple cotton. After108C06Navy.JPG (8203 bytes) picking, our cotton is combed to remove any short fibers or impurities (Short fibers cause pilling, something you don't want.) This process also aligns the long fibers, making them smoother. The yarns are then spun into a two-ply yarn for extra strength.
We use a combination of 2x2 rib for collars, cuffs and waist CloseUpRibbedJumper.JPG (2913 bytes)CloseUpJumperShoulder.JPG (3257 bytes)bands. Tubular attachment is also used for neck ribbing and saddle shoulders.  All featured to keep the shape and fit, and give maximum comfort. All of our cotton jumpers are then given a soft wash, which leaves them feeling silky smooth. This means they feel good against bare skin, so wearing them with just a t-shirt underneath feels great.

When the cold wind blows, you will be very thankful for our 8 wale cord collar wrapped around your neck......lovely.

You can find a range of jumpers in the same gutsy 4 gauge knit, but without collars in Rivers now. Our designers travel the world to find new designs and technologies to use on Australian wool. Here you have them! 4 gauge, worsted wool, soft and strong and no collars. The wool is treated with a special "non prickly" secret formula. This means you can actually wear them without wanting to rip them off, like some prickly woolen jumpers.

What is the big deal about wool?
Wool is one of the oldest textiles known to man. The natural properties it had in the stone age era are still valuable today.

  • Insulation. By absorbing moisture vapor, wool clothing provides superior comfort in both hot & cold weather. In cold weather, even a little moisture on the skin becomes cold. By absorbing body moisture, a dry layer of air is left next result, little pockets of air are trapped between the fibers and provide excellent insulation.
  • Water repellent. Try mopping up spills with an old woolen jumper. It won't soak in.
  • Fire resistant. Firemen wear wool uniforms.
  • Durable. It gives rather than resists friction.
  • Dirt resistant. Scales on the fibers keep dirt from penetrating the fibres.

Which wool is worsted?
Worsted wool feels good, has good tear strength and is hard wearing. In normal woolen yarns, the fibers lie in all directions. Worsted wool is combed to remove all the short fibers and align the longer fibers so they are parallel. This makes them leaner, smoother, stronger (maybe we should call it Olympic wool?).
